Before I get started I must premise this section by telling you that this is one of the most dangerous and destructive false teaching of the Independent Fundamental Baptist Denomination. Teaching tithing is absolutely unbiblical and nothing more than mind control manipulation. There has been a lot of good information on the truth about tithing made available online and I will provide some links at the bottom of this page to web sites that I have read and agree with. The purpose of this page is not to go into a lot of detail about tithing. I would simply like to point out the false teachings of the Independent Fundamental Baptist Denomination in this area and touch on some of the important points about tithing that show why it is wrong. When I recently asked an Independent Fundamental Baptist Denomination minister about tithing this was his reply was: However, God has categorically promised to bless those who will so honor Him.

August 15, in Blog with 2 Comments One of the most influential of all British Baptists wrote these lines- The old truth that Calvin preached, that Augustine preached, that Paul preached, is the truth that I must preach today, or else be false to my conscience and my God. I cannot shape the truth; I know of no such thing as paring off the rough edges of a doctrine. That which thundered through Scotland must thunder through England again.
None less than C. Spurgeon- one of the most widely cited and influential Baptists in all of Baptist history. I can only say that mine inclines as naturally towards the doctrine of sovereign grace. Sometimes, when I see some of the worst characters in the street, I feel as if my heart must burst forth in tears of gratitude that God has never let me act as they have done! I have thought, if God had left me alone, and had not touched me by His grace, what a great sinner I should have been!
I should have run to the utmost lengths of sin, dived into the very depths of evil, nor should I have stopped at any vice or folly, if God had not restrained me. I feel that I should have been a very king of sinners, if God had let me alone.

These believers have an individual relationship with God. This view, known as the priesthood of believers, is a foundational issue for the Baptist faith. Since the beginnings of Baptist thought, this individual freedom has been a basis of doctrine. Because of this insistence on individual conscience, Baptists have always rejected formal, binding creeds.
Refusing to hold such creeds as infallible, Baptists have suffered persecution. Banishments, torture, and even executions fill Baptist history. However, despite tremendous opposition from ecclesiastical, and state authorities, Baptists held their beliefs. Unfortunately, forsaking this historical freedom of conscience, legalism and creedalism have become part of Southern Baptist thought.
One such example is the prohibition of alcohol. Many church leaders expect each individual’s conscience to conform to the collective conscience. Individuals who do not fit the collective conscience face excommunication Hailey, Biblical exegesis shows that the choice to drink or not drink is a matter of conscience. In spite of this, Southern Baptists in the United States, almost universally, have strict rules requiring abstinence.

Pulpit Commentary Verse There was a confident hope among the Jews, dating frown the days of the prophecy of Malachi, some four hundred years before the vision of Zacharias, that the days of Messiah would be heralded by an appearance of the Prophet Elijah. The selfsame expectation is still cherished by every pious Jew. To turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just.
